A big boy bed at last.

Allister has been needing to upgrade to a big boy bed for a while. He's been climbing out of his crib since he was about 15 months or so I think. And it's been happening more and more and more.
Then he broke his leg and it slowed him down. Temporarily at least! Even with his cast after 3 weeks he was back to climbing from his crib. Now I don't mind the climbing out, it's the inability to climb back in that causes the problem! For the last few weeks I've been having to lay next to Allister in his crib, on the floor, so he wouldn't climb out. The floor is getting old, and cold. Many nights, and naps, I've fallen asleep on the floor waiting for Allister to go to sleep!
So, we finally dismantled the crib, and converted it to a toddler bed. We made the room a Toy Story room, and tonight, Allister went to sleep right away. In his big boy bed :)
At least now if he gets out of bed he can get himself back in, and I can leave him to his own shenanigans!

Allister update.

We had a follow up appointment on Wednesday with an orthopedic doctor. They said Allister is healing great! There were a couple of things to watch for with a broken tibia Firstly there can be over healing, causing the tibia to grow longer than it should leading to a crooked leg. Apparently this is very common. There is no cure, time is the only healer, and that can take over a year. Let's hope that doesn't happen! Limping will apparently be likely, and for many weeks as the tight muscles learn to relax again. But this is nothing to worry about.
Allister is no longer on any kind of restriction. That's a good job, this boy is now trying to walk on his bent leg cast. Yeah. And climbing like the monkey he is! He has been very very fussy and clingy the last few days, not helped by the fact he now has Croup. I told you we wouldn't escape the ER free from germs! He will barely let me put him down, and even though I like the cuddles, it's tough trying to get stuff done. We have a lot going on in the house right now- another post coming up.
Allister is scheduled for the removal of his cast on November 2nd. That day can not come fast enough! We will have another Xray and make sure all is good.

Thomas 'ooom

We had a busy weekend!

Grammy and Pooh-bah came to help us with some decorating. We did baby brothers nursery, the hall and stairs and moved lots of furniture! Everything looks awesome. The nursery photos will be posted once the furniture is in place.

We finally decided it was time to move Harrison to a big boy bed. We have been going back and forth for a very long time. We just couldn't decide if we should move him now, or when baby brother arrived. The only reason we were hesitant was because Harrison was so happy in his crib, he would sit there and play for 30 minutes or more before or after bed and that time is his only down time as he is such an active boy, i didn't want to lose that time!

In the end we decided it would be easier to spend the time on it now, than with a new born or young baby to attend to as well. Thankfully it looks like we made the right decision!

Here is Harrison's new bedroom, which Harrison calls his "Thomas 'ooom"!

Its all Thomas-fied!

He has a great bed rail with places for books and a night light and cup holder.

We still need a valance/bed skirt and to move some furniture around. But the bed looks awesome. We also put Thomas decals on the walls and Harrison is so excited about them!

So here is how the transition went....

When Harrison first went into his new room for nap time, he went crazy! He was shaking from head to toe with excitement at all the Thomas things. It was so cute. He ran up and down his bed and was touching all the Thomas stuff. Needless to say he was too excited to nap. It didn't help that Grammy and Pooh-bah where still here and he didn't want to miss a minute of their company!

When we took Harrison up to bed later that night, again he was very excited! We read him his story, put him in bed and left the room. About a whole 2 seconds later he was up and out of his bed trying the door. About two minutes later he was opening the door. We tried the back to bed technique over and over but found it became too much of a game, as soon as he was back in his bed and we had closed the door he would jump right out and open the door again laughing with his cheeky little face! So we put a childproof cover on his door handle and he soon gave up and went to sleep after playing on the floor with his books. I guess it took about an hour and a half, but he was happy the whole time and it was stress free.

In the morning he slept in till his normal time and played in his room with his books.

Since then hes been doing awesome! He's been taking longer to get to sleep as hes been playing with his books, but other than that there is no difference. In fact today he was so tired, he climbed up on his bed and didn't even want a nap time story, he went straight to sleep!

Sentences

Harrison has been saying a few sentences here and there, 3 or 4 words long.

Today he said "Ooops, oh no, broke it!"

He didn't actually break anything, he says broke it sometimes when things don't appear quite right, and sometimes for reasons I don't know! What goes on in a 19 months old brain is sometimes a mystery.

Ill try and remember more sentences, but I keep forgetting to write them down!

Harrison's pointy teeth seem to be finally through!

Hallelujah!

I know I've said this a million times, but he seriously is the slowest teether in the world! They started to come down way before Christmas and the final one of four is just now poking through the gum now. They have been traumatic for everyone :)

Now we get a break till 2 year molars!

Hurrah!

Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

Harrison is about anything that moves right now! He is so into Thomas the Tank Engine, he will ask to "otch Thomas" all day long. Of course we don't let him!

Matt got out his old toy cars, planes etc from the basement and Harrison's has been having a field day with them! He thows a tantrum when its time to eat, sleep or do anything away from those cars. He takes some everywhere he goes.

While we were shopping the other day we found a Thomas puzzle mat and a Thomas train tent, which of course we had to get for his play room!

When we move Harrison to a big boy bed (which we think we will do before baby arrives) he will be getting a Thomas bed set for sure!

Chopsticks

Who'd have thought chopsticks were a great way to get your toddler to eat!

A few weeks ago we ate Chinese take-out (probably the last for a while, its not carb friendly!) and Harrison decided he was all done. So I gave him some chopsticks to play with, and he started stabbing food with them and eating it! He loved them and thought it was hilarius he could eat with sticks :)
