Mission not-Impossible.

"If I push this chair all the way from the kitchen table, place it right here. Climb up and then onto the kitchen counter I can make myself coffee! Brilliant!"
And all I was doing us 1 load of laundry.

Accidents happen.....

Boys oh boys.
Some weeks, heck, some days, we have several owies, boo-boos scrapes, scratches and falls.
Allister is at that age where he falls allot, he is trying to reach new heights and attempt things his brother can easily do.

This is the vents of the past few days.

Allister falls in the play-ground while running too fast down hill.
Result: Scraped up bloody nose.
Allister climbs on a little toddler size chair, falls off flat on his face.
Result: Bruised cheeks, he looked like he had blusher on in purple! Two little rounds right on his cheek bone!
Allister falls, randomly when we are not watching.
Result: Bites his lip, its bleeding.

Harrison puts his hand on the door frame while getting out of the car seat, and I close the door. (OMG this was so so so close, I feel so so bad when I think of this!!!!!!)
Thankfully his hand is on the part where the rubber seal meets the window where there is no metal frame, so the glass has some give and the rubber too.
Result: Lots and lots of tears, and hugs, no bruises or breaks! (Thank God!)

Harrison pulls the fan down that is in Allister room, on top of himself and Allister.
Result: Scraped tummy and cheek. No tears on this one!

Harrison plays with the soap, and gets it all over his hands, in his eyes and everywhere!!!!
Result: Lots of tears and sore red eyes. And a big lesson that soap is not a toy!

Allister falls off the chair on the porch.
      Result: Tears and hugs.

That's all the ones I can remember form the last few days, that resulted in more than just a few tears. Oh apart from this one.......

Harrison pushed Allister and he face-planted on the carpet:
      Result:

Looks worse than it is! I saw the blood and freaked, but it was bath time and so I realized that Allister had a little rug burn, and his scab from his previous fall came off and he had rubbed the blood on himself! It all washed off ;)

Boys are sent to test our nerves that's for sure!

One to embarrass them with later in life......

Kids will find the funniest things to play with. The old story about having more fun with the box than the toy itself is so true! But this is a new one on me.......

Yes its a tampon. Sorry guys!
Harrison and Allister fought over it after Harrison found it in my bag, apparently its a super fun toy!

Feel free to hate me for the humiliation later in life boys!
      I love you :)

Oooh look what I can do!

I can climb on this chair....

And look outside! Wow, doggies, ooof ooof ooof!

I wonder If I can get a better look?

      This is getting better....

      You caught me!

I was too scared to take the next photo, because he was standing tall on the arm rest of the chair, banging on the screen.
      Boys.

      The boy and his bone.

Here is Harrison and his collar bone. I'm still having a tough time keeping this guy from climbing, and therefore falling, he just has too much energy!

You can see its now swollen and bruised.
The trouble is, when we first went to Urgent care, there was no swelling and no bruising. Although the doctor didn't even take his shirt off anyhow!
      Mend soon baby boy :)

Edited to add- Its his left shoulder, so right as you look at the screen, in case your eyes are bad ;)

      Another ouchy

So Harrison has broken his left collar bone :(
We spent another long long day in doctors offices and urgent care! We had an appointment with our doctor at 11.10am, and then went home had lunch, and then back to urgent care. We got home just now at 5:20pm.
      I want to scream!
It was so hard keeping Harrison happy and amused, he was tired, grumpy and not feeling great. The X-ray part went quick, then we waited what seemed like forever just to have a bandage put on that I could do in 5 seconds. So much for speedier service when you pay!
Anyway, I think the whole experience was tainted by the fact that we spend a couple of needless hours there on Sunday (I will explain below.)
Here is Harrison's X-ray- the break is pretty obvious and everyone said how well he is doing despite it! He's not very fussy and moving his arm fairly well, just not holding it right up.

So the story goes a little like this...
Saturday night 1am- THUD. Harrison falls out of bed (First time ever!) cries for 2 or 3 hours, and so I give him Ibuprofen and he goes to sleep with me in his bed. After I leave to go back to my bed, Harrison comes into our room, so he sleeps with us and does fine till 7am or so, then wakes up crying again and holding the side and back of his neck. After much debate with Daddy Matt we decide to call the doctor, he has a bad cold and bad cough too, so we wonder is it the fall or an ear infection?
The doctor tells us if he is moving around fine and seems fairly happy wait till urgent care opens at noon, so we do and off we go.

Once we get to see the doctor, I explain everything and she checks his ears, no problem. She checks his throat no problem. She assumes a sinus infection because we cant see anything wrong. She doesn't however feel for a broken collar bone. the most likely broken bone on the body, especially on children and especially after falls from the bed!
I regret not questioning the doctors authority.
We go home with antibiotics and instruction to visit our doctor if he isn't better in 2 days.
Over the next few days Harrison seems a lot better, but I can see his shoulder just looks different and he is favoring his right arm, he also complains of it being "ouchy" and asks me and daddy to "kiss it better" lots and lots! Even Ickle Jason had to kiss it better!

So I decide to trust my instinct and off we go again to the doctor today, who says, yes it looks broken. And so after lunch we return to Urgent care. We wait WAY TOO LONG to be seen by a doctor who is just sitting at a desk, doing "nothing" I'm sure. Or so it feels to my "two tired grumpy" boys self.

Harrison has a shoulder brace that he has already removed. Our doctor said if he doesn't want to wear it don't force the issue, its doesn't aide healing, just helps him feel more comfortable.
He wont be climbing any monkey bars soon!

      Our first broken bone?

We are off to Children's Hospital again this afternoon, Harrison has a suspected broken collar bone.
I am just waiting for the baby to finish a nap today before we go, he hasn't had a nap yet because i have been running around like a crazy mum all morning!

Its a long story which I will share later, but Harrison fell out of bed over the weekend, and the Urgent Care doctor misdiagnosed him. So, after a visit back to our doctor today, we think his collar bone is broken and so off to get X-rays we go!
      Poor little chap.

Ill update later when we get back, I'm finally going to go do the dishes!

      "Harrison sit in time out!"

This phrase is getting rather familiar after Harrison attends his MDO program!
5 days into MDO and 4 timeouts lol.
He isn't being naughty exactly, but is testing his boundaries with his teachers a lot, other than the one pushing incident he has been leaving the lunch table and wondering around with his food, so he sits in timeout! At home we strap Harrison into a booster seat, so he hasn't yet learned to sit in his seat till lunch is finished. I'm sure he will learn soon enough!
We also had a screaming incident today, something Harrison hasn't done in a while. He was wondering around the classroom screaming at the top of his lungs, surely for attention. Its kind of funny when you think about it, he used to do this allot with his buddy Jonny, they would take turns to scream, and after a while it would get so annoying. But since Jonny moved away he hasn't done it, till today. I will say in Harrison's defence that he woke up at 5 ish this morning, so was probably over tired. The teacher asked me how to distract him from the screaming, so I suggested singing, as he loves to sing, it often works at home when we are trying to avoid undesirable behavior.

His class Friday class now has a girl! His Tuesday class is still all boys, all 10 of them!
His classmate Kent turned 2 today, they had a little party, and Harrison got a party bag and treats, so cute!

My fridge is getting rather full, so I am out this weekend looking for ways to display his artwork before its filed away, or mailed away to you folks :)
      See my fridge!

He is quietly napping now, I love Fridays.

      New heights.

Harrison is climbing again. I thought he outgrew this fad!
But alas no, he is up on everything again. But this time he can reach things I never thought possible.
He will stand on the kitchen table, the side table, his dresser drawers, his book shelf.
And the big one, he will sit on the kitchen counter.
Yesterday I was upstairs putting Allister down for a nap, and I return to Harrison sitting quiet happily on the kitchen worktop, drinking water from the cup I had placed there "out of reach".
We need to get this boy some rope to climb!

      Another lock situation......

We had another unintentional lock-in at our house.
This is the third time recently that one of has been locked in or out! As you may remember a while back, we all (excluding Allister) got locked in our bedroom, then one day Harrison and I were out on the porch to clean the patio door glass, and we both got locked out there! Thankfully the garage door was open so we walked round in our jammies :)

So this week I put Harrison down for his nap, and then went about my business. After about an hour I could still hear him playing so I went to go get him up. When I tried the door it was locked. We don't have a key, or if we did I have no idea where it went! And it wasn't one of those locks that you can poke a screwdriver in, nope. No hole, no screws to remove it, nothing!
So I call Matt in a panic, and he rushes home. In the mean time I try and get Harrison to open the door.
Me "Harrison can you unlock the door?"
      Harrison" Ok Mummy"
"Turn that little circle thing in the middle"
      "Ok Mummy"
I hear fiddling with the door.
      Me "Can you do it?"
      "Yes"
"Go on then, open the door, turn the lock that you turned"
      "Ok mummy"
      fiddle fiddle.
This goes on for the 20 minutes or so it takes Matt to arrive.

We try and pry the cover off the door knob, but it doesn't budge, and with no other solution Matt kicks down the door.
      Harrison screams.
Then he announces in a very proud voice
      "We did it!"

      Thats my boy(s).

      Toddler proofing and naps.

Baby proofing takes on a whole different meaning when you have a toddler.
It surprises me when I go into houses where they have no toddler proofing, no gates, or cupboard locks. Nothing!
Now, they obviously don't have a boy like Harrison!
There is an argument to say, don't baby proof, they will learn not to touch stuff, run up stairs, etc etc etc, I do understand this completely.
However Harrison is learning not to touch stuff, he even says "Touch Stuff!" on a regular basis now ;O)
But kids are different, and Harrison is more inquisitive than the average two year old, I just don't have the energy to be on constant guard wondering what he is up to, and if he is safe. Especially when I am nursing Allister and can't see what he is up to! Poor Allister has his feeds interrupted enough as it is! Especially since Harrison has take about 1 1/2 naps in the last 3 weeks, and he REALLY needs to catch up on some sleep!
      Big time.
He is a time bomb waiting to happen right now. Everything is drama, he is so worn out. I have taken all the books and toys out of his room today, just left a few soft toys, I hope this does the trick. I don't know what else to do! We have the same routine, the same old time as usual. I've also tried napping him earlier, later, all to no avail. I wouldn't mind if he didn't actually need the sleep, but as soon as we get in the car he is asleep in 5 minutes or less. Matt and I even drove around for an hour on Saturday to get him some sleep. He is so over tired he is waiting to explode and have a tantrum at every opportunity.
Ive taken him to the park and pool before hand to wear him out. Nope.
Ive snuggle down with him in his bed. Nope.
Ive laid him on the couch in front of a movie. Nope.
The only thing we can think of right now is to get him to bed super early, like 7:30 and hope he sleeps right away so he can catch up a bit, assuming this doesn't mean he wakes up super early! We will try it tonight, dinner, then bed, right away.

      Anyway, back to baby proofing!
We have locks on many doors, gates everywhere and fragile stuff put away. Its enough of a job to stop him playing with the DVD's, climbing on the glass TV cabinet, out of Guinness's dog food and water, out of the pantry, stopping him playing with the toilet paper and so on and so on. I do not want to be telling him off , and saying NO, all day, that's no fun for either of us!
So he will, I hope, learn boundaries from the stuff that is in reach, and where I can see him and keep him safe! And the bigger picture of keeping him out of mischief when he is out of sight will come later.

      Super duper Tantrums.

Harrison is right in the throes of the terrible twos.
He goes from sweet adorable boy, to terror in the blink of an eye, or, more accurately the sight of a nap! Or his bedtime in general. He is climbing on everything, throwing things, food, drinks toys. Screaming a lot, and basically being a very terrible two year old.
Sometimes he doesn't want to wear a nappy, put on underwear, or PJ's at bedtime.
He doesn't want a story, then he does, he hides under the bed where we cant reach him, and runs kicking and screaming saying "upstairs upstairs!" He means downstairs.
I know all about the right way to deal with it, ignore the bad, praise the good, be consistent blah blah blah
      But its SO HARD!
Its hard not to yell, scream and throw tantrums ourselves.
      But we try.
We are the adults after all!
We still love and adore him, we just hope this phase passes very VERY quickly.
Right now we are treasuring the sweet adorable moments,
and trying to ignore the not so nice ones.
We are trying to set some boundaries and keep consistent with them and time outs, and it does seem to be working. We have to remember he has had a lot of changes lately, baby brother, new big boy bed, no Binky, no nappy's! Its allot for a little boy to take in.
We were more consistent yesterday and it did help lots, he still didn't nap, but went down last night fine. Today he has been a lot better too.
      Watch this space.

      Careful what you wish for!

Since we've been working on potty training I have been trying to teach Harrison to take of his underpants and trousers. Its funny, because most kids learn this very easily and start randomly taking off their clothes at inappropriate times. Well, we have been lucky enough not to have this problem... until now.

This morning I go into get Harrison up, he has been quietly playing in his room as usual, waiting for one of us to go get him.
He is naked from the waist down.
      No nappy, no PJ bottoms.

"Stinky poopers!" Harrison exclaims, and points...to the top of his dresser drawers!
      Oh fun.
"Is there any more poopers?" I ask.

      ""Guinness eat."

      Whaaaaat!

I have no idea if Guinness really did eat any of the poop, I guess we will never find out!

So I search the room for remnants of poop, there's some on his feet, the bed, the carpet, on top of his rocking horse which he has been bare-bum riding!

Oh the joys of two year old's.
We will sure have a lot of funny stories to tell when Harrison is older.

Like the story about Auntie Julie and uncle Gary who, while potty training, pooped in the potty and then painted themselves with it.
